(April 2012) The African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies, the Sudan Democracy First Group and REDRESS (‘the Organisations’) submitted this alternative report to the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights in respect of Sudan’s Fourth Periodic Report (2008-2012). The report highlights the continued and widespread use of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment by the Sudanese authorities, which have been committed with impunity during the reporting period and focusses on violations of Articles 1 and 5 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. It is based on interviews with victims of torture and ill treatment in Sudan, as well as reports published by the United Nations and international and national non-governmental human rights organisations.
