Job Title: Sudan Project Coordinator, African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS).

REPORTING TO:  Senior Programme Officer and Executive Director

BENEFITS: 22 days annual leave, in addition to Sudan public holidays.

LOCATION: Khartoum -Sudan.

General Purpose of the Job:

ACJPS seeks to hire a full-time Project Coordinator who will work closely with ACJPS’ programs team to coordinate, monitor and organize ongoing projects in Sudan. The Coordinator will be required to monitor the implementation of existing projects and provide administrative support to ACJPS’ programs inside Sudan.

S/he will be an integral part of the program team working to improve monitoring and documenting of the human rights situation in Sudan and coordinating with sub-grantees as part of this program. S/he will also assist with developing program activity reports, implementation of activities, monitoring and evaluation and oversee administrative tasks. The Project Coordinator will perform various responsibilities with support from the Senior Program Officer and Executive Director.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the smooth implementation of projects inside Sudan, including maintaining and monitoring project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets and expenditure;
  • Building and maintaining effective electronic and paper filing systems and other administrative tasks;
  • Overseeing the implementation of the activities by ACJPS’s sub-guarantees in Sudan;
  • Providing administrative and logistical support for the conduct of ACJPS conferences, workshops and other events inside Sudan;
  • Assisting Senior Programme Officer to draft monthly activity reports and supporting the drafting of work plans and reports for all activities inside Sudan;
  • Providing support to the Executive Director and/or Senior Programme Officer for, and participating in, advocacy activities inside Sudan as needed;
  • Assisting the Executive Director and/or Senior Programme Officer to identify fundraising opportunities inside Sudan;
  • Perform other tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • Advanced university degree in law, human rights, business administration, social or political science, international relations, development studies or related fields;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English;
  • At least two years’ experience working in a project management role;
  • Sound knowledge and experience of working on a range of human rights issues; exposure to and knowledge of the human rights and political context in Sudan;
  • Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to evaluate and integrate information from a variety of sources and assess impacts on the human rights situation in the country.
  • Excellent communication (spoken, written and presentational) skills, including the ability to produce a variety of written reports in a clear, concise style.
  • Excellent time keeping skills and ability to establish priorities and to plan work assignments, juggle competing demands and work under pressure of frequent and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel,

Desirable

  • Experience drafting narrative and financial reports;
  • Experience drafting and managing project budgets;
  • Experience working in multi-country and multi-linguistic teams;
  • Good knowledge of human rights and its regional and international mechanisms.
